I'm no very sure on what to write for the analysis part of my coursework. This is what I've got so far:
"Both my experiments prove my hypothesis, whcih was the higher the concentration of sucrose there is in the solution, the more water will be lost from the potato tissue. The reduction in the weight of the potato tissue has proved this. The table showing the 1st results shows that at 0.6 mol/l/ concentration of sucrose in the solution the weight of the potato tissue dropped by 0.34g, whereas later in 1.0mol/l concentration it dropped by 0.63g. This applies to the 2nd and average results as a similar thing happens there as well.
The graphs that I obtained from the results all contain a negative correlation, which also supports my hypothesis. However there are some anomolies in my graphs which means that my graphs aren't completely accurate.
From my average results I can see that the concentration of sucrose with the least difference in weight is 0.4mol/l. This means that the solution would be isotonic near 0.4mol/l concentration, also the concentration of sucrose in the potato tissue would be near this point."
Would I be able to build on this by using the y=mx+c formula using my average graph? How can I include scientific knowledge?
It is difficult to advise on analysis without seeing the actual results. I wouldn't use the formula, as the results are probably not accurate enough to make it meaningful. The scientific knowledge you need to use is what is actually happening as regards osmosis, and in particular what is happening in the region where the potato neither gains nor loses weight. I can't tell if this applies in your case, but often the line levels off at higher concentrations, due to the fact that plasmolysis has occurred and any further increase in concentration has less effect.
