sharpies_4_life asks:

Why does facilitated diffusion not use atp but active transport does across a plasma membrane?

etutor answers:
Facilitated diffusion goes down a concentration gradient, but the speed is increased because of the use of a carrier. This makes it 'mechanically' easier to diffuse, and no extra energy is required.
