Similarities

Means of molecular transport; used by cells; affected by temperature

Differences

Diffusion depends upon concentration gradient, acitve transport does not; active transport requires energy; active transport involves carriers; diffusion involves random movement of molecules, whereas active transport involves directed movement; diffusion is two-way, active transport is one-way (at any given moment.
