anisah24 asks:

In my english lesson i had to stand in front of the class and read my essay which was part of my speaking and listening task. The problem is im too shy and had the book in front of my face while i was reading. After i had finished i got a grade G which is low. How could i improve it? Can u help?

etutor answers:

Not sure why your teacher would have asked you to READ your essay as the speaking task is more about giving a talk rather than reading.
What you should have in front of you is not a word for word essay but note card with the main headings on it which you must then talk about freely, looking up and out to your audience. Your talk should have a beginning, a middle, and an end. What you mustn’t do is read out word for word which is why I suspect you got a G.
I would talk to your teacher and be clear about what he/she is looking for but I suspect that there is some misunderstanding about the nature of the task.

As you are shy, ask your teacher if you can do this task in front of a few friends rather than the whole class.

try learning your speaking piece by heart, it is very daunting, but then you can look up and you feel much less nervous. honest
