Totally torn

Between Abingon and Oxpens. I have applied to do A level Theatre Studies, Government and Politics and Psychology. I had my interview at Abindon yesterday and bolutely loved it Oxpes usedto be my first choice but I'm now unsure. For psycholoy they have the AQA syllabus which I'mhappy with. Its the same one our school had so the links on my chool website will be relevant too. For Drama however Oxpens have 2 parts practical and one part written while Abingdon have 1 part practical and two parts written. I am now confident enough to do acting. The AQA and Edexcel boars look just as good. Our school had the EDecxel board. ut somehow though I like both I'm sure I'll enjoy the pratical more than the theory. Also Oxpensis nearer etc. The course tutor at Abingdonsaid their Drama course was more theory than practical. as I like both just as wellI said that didn't meter and then reconsidered. Just ondered if anyone else is in that situation.

Othello

Sat, March 12, 2005
So excited. I sent Studyzones4 Othello essays which I'd done and all 4 returned with A. I can't believe it. Predicted A-C in English too. In RE and IT its only E/U which is why I'm trying very hard to pass them. Proves that you can't belie your nature. I only took them as they were the courses I wanted to do were not offered by the school. Ah Othello is brilliant.

Change vs constancy

Sat, February 26, 2005
Has anyone been in that situation where you have changed but nothing around you has changed so you tend not to be part of it any more? Also have you been in the exact opposite situation where you haven't changed but everything around you has changed so you are not a part of it? If so what can you do about it? I've been in both but I was wondering who else has, thanks. Lizzie.

A level combinations

Thu, February 17, 2005
Which ones are you all doing and whereabouts - school? College? id you choose thewrong combination the first time and have to choose again?

At school I had no option ut to pick English, History, IT and RE and I pulled out of History as it was too difficult. Love English. I like IT and RE - just not in the same way, and I'mpredicted:

Eng - B

IT - D

RE - E

So I applied for the subjects I do want to study at Oxford and Cherwell, the ones I should have done with English;

Theatre Studies, Politics and Government, Psychology

D'you reckon ts a good combination? I thought so. Politics is brilliant - can't kep my nose out of the paper. Love Drama and Psychology.

Othello

I'm studyiong it at the moment and I love it. Hamlet's my favourite Shakespeare play but Othello is now my next favourite. I've just watched the Kenneth Branagh version in las and it was really powerful, compelling stuff. My favourite version is the ian McKellen one that I actually got for christmas but my second favourite is now the Kenneth Branagh one. I thought oth Othello and iago in particular were excellent and everyone was really good. I know its a bit violent and is probably an "18"- I'll only be 18 in July but most of the people in our class are 18 already. The BBC version was good. Othello was good in that but it wasn't directed well. Haven't seen the Laurence Olivier one yet and the Orson Wells one is good for its time - just too simplistic. I actually think that the two best versions are: 1.Ian Mckellen 2. Kenneth Branagh

Then I'd go for:

3. BBC Version 4. Orson Welles 5. Laurence Olivier.

I actually think the one we saw today was like the most realistic. It had stark realism in it and showed Othelo's real pstychological torment - almost like going into shock. Iago's brutality was also shown really well and the obsession of the villan and the hero with each other was shown well too. Its the only one I've seen so far thats brutally honest and realistic. Even in my favouritye Ian Mckellen one they've romanticised it slightly. Thats why I went away buzzing because it was so involving. They've cut out parts of the script I know but it was still really good. What do you all think then?

Whats Drama ike?

Sat, January 29, 2005
Whether at GCSE, A or Degree level? I never realised before sixth fom how much I actually wanted to do it. Inthe lower years before year 10 I found it awkward and embarrassing but when all those stupid twits (mainly boys) left and only sensible people who truly wanted to study were left and i could build up true friendships I started to realise that I did like it so I've applied for it at colege for GCSe though I saidin my application thatif I were good at it I want to do it further. Do you do like kissing, hugging, crying scenes etc? When I found out thatI was an asexual lesbian and would probably remain single ( as my sulmate doesn't in this life love me back) I became more relaxed and confident about something like Drama. Please reply.
