Text Transformations (AQA)

One of the problems that I have seen with the AQA A2 English Language & Literature course is that numerous students fail because the coursework forces people to transform a text according to the standards of the examining board, which in its own right seems unfair because their understanding of 'literary value' differs from that of a seventeen year old student.

Regardless, I have the problem with some of the texts I have selected for transformations. I have considered numerous different avenues but each one seems to scream problems and I would much prefer one in which the words come with ease, rather than force myself to write in such a way as to show my lack of understanding.

Below, I have detailed the choices which I have made and I hope that you could provide some suggestions on possible transformations (one genre to another genre/sub-genre). Each text is different and is a different genre (I assume) which means the possibilities are endless, if you could provide them.

1. War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy
2. The Interpretation of Murder by Jed Rubenfeld
3. The Meaning of Night by Michael Cox
4. Redemption Falls by Joseph O'Connor
5. Song of Solomon, King James Version.
6. Revelation, King James Version.

work exp advice

Hello again,

i have previously sent a question discussing my elligability for medicine and my grades but now i would like to discuss some aspects of the personal statement, namely work experience.

Before i recieve my AS results i should have already: first aider with St johns ambulance, Volunteer at christies cancer hospital, volunteering at Stepping Hill, Work experience at Stepping Hill, im going to medlink ( that coourse in Nottingham), subscription to the SBMJ and various college titles such as on student council and been peer conselling trained. Am i lacking in anything? can you suggest anything else to make my application look more appealing? ( hopefully to cover my weak GCSEs! )

Thanks again ( and for your previous response! )

Matt

A2 coursework Topic

I'm really stuck on topic to study for my A2 coursework. My teacher has allocated the majority of the class with topics but she believes that i am academically able enough to choose my own. Which topics usually generate the best marks?

Using copper sulphate as a catalase inhibitor

I'm currently doing my A2 Level coursework - I am testing different quantities of copper sulphate and how it acts as an inhibitor on catalase.

I put copper sulphate and hydrogen peroxide in a test tube and then add a 10mmsquared cube of potato. I have a test tube bung with a flexible tube in it, running into a measuring beaker. I've tried to measure the amount of oxygen that ends up in the measuring tube but the amounts don't follow any pattern. With the first test I did, the most oxygen was produced when there was no copper sulphate in the test tube(my control group), then next was the one with 1 mole of copper sulphate, then 0.6 moles, 0.8 moles, 0.4 moles and the least oxygen produced was from the test tube with 2 moles of copper sulphate in it.

I did another test, the group with the most copper sulphate produced the most oxygen and the one with the least copper sulphate produced the least oxygen.

Surely this can't be right? Have you any idea what I might be doing wrong? Does copper sulphate only act as an inhibitor in certain conditions? Am I making a mess of my coursework? Thanks for your help.

A Level, English Lit/Lang Text Transformation

Hey,
We've just been introduced to this unit, text transformation. We have been told that we can transform a poem, novel, play or comic strip, as well as anything else if it is allowed.

The new text should 'shed light' on the original, but should also show new material.

I am totally stuck about what to do! I want something a bit challenging but also something I am interested in!

I have a list of books that I have read and really enjoyed, but have no ideas about a transformation.
- Atonement- Ian McEwan
- The Horse Whisperer- Nicholas Evans
- To Die For -Carol Lee, (Memoir about daughter suffering from Anorexia)
- Nineteen Minutes- Jodi Picoult
- My Sisters Keeper- Jodi Picoult
- Soul Surfer- Bethany Hamilton (Biography about surfing accident in which she lost her arm to a shark)
- Goddess- Anthony Summers (The secret lives of Marilyn Monroe)
- A Piece Of Cake- Cupcake Brown (memoir about a girl who was in the childcare system, got invovled with gangs, prostitution, drugs etc)
- When The Wind Blows- James Patterson
- The Lake House- James Patterson
- A Child Called It- Dave Pelzer
- Before I Die- Jenny Downham (novel about a girl dying, decides to write a list of things to do before she dies)

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
